RM5,000 for assault victim
KUALA LUMPUR: Despite his ordeal, slash victim Phang Kar Wei was in a jovial mood when a company managing director presented him with a cheque for RM5,000 at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital yesterday.
Funeral services company NV Alliance Group managing director Datuk David Kong, who presented the cheque, listened to Phang’s recollection of the incident and saw the injuries he had sustained.
The 23-year-old Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman (KTAR) information systems engineering student was assaulted last Saturday by two unidentified men on motorcycles in Taman Melati.
About 15 minutes earlier and 2km away at Wangsa Maju, another KTAR student Lee Kean Yip was brutally murdered by assailants.

CONCERNED CITIZEN: Kong looking at Phang’s bandaged hands as Phang relates his ordeal at Kuala Lumpur Hospital Thursday. |
He said that NV Alliance Group would be holding an enlightenment ceremony this Sunday at the Nirvana Memorial Park in Semenyih.
About 10,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony and one of the highlights will be the signing of a banner to express the people's concern over the rising number of crime cases lately.
It will be handed to the Internal Security Ministry later.
Phang, who was discharged yesterday, said he was keen to get back on his feet again.
The injuries will require six weeks to heal, and Phang will undergo physiotherapy twice a week until then.
